"Gents NOT allowed" - that was her tagline and her show "Ladies Colony" had massive listenership by the forbidden "Gents". The year 2006 saw the launch of Radio FM and the term Radio Jockey started becoming familiar to the Hyderabadis. Among the other RJ's was this girl who had zero exposure to media prior to her joining. She was a simple person who never knew the heights this media would take her.
On the 2nd day of her joining she gave her resignation knowing very well that she was NOT cut out for Radio where she had to handle console, faders, celebrities, telugu movies, and telugu songs and telugu jock talk etc. Born in Delhi, brought up in Punjab, this Telugu girl found every bit of her professional journey extremely challenging. The twist came when her COO refused to accept her resignation. He countered every point of hers and justified why she was the right fit. With lots of inhibitions she started her journey as a Radio Jockey and within no time she was a household name.
Extremely loved by her listeners, she was one RJ who enjoyed being pampered by the ladies of her show. They made tasteful delicacies and got it to the studio for her. Her cookery segment was indeed a hit! Her sessions with the Psychiatrist Dr.Purnima Nagaraja gave solace to the painful hearts. She extended invites to the Television celebrities and that segment was an instant hit.
She climbed the ladder of profession skillfully. Her sense of music also promoted her as Music Manager, later as RCS manager and then as Programming Controller. But she always remained as an approachable person to her listeners, protected her team as the mother hen, handled auditors like a fierce soldier hence was also called as "mirchi maata". This shows that a simple next door girl can reach greater heights in life.
Always stay hopeful!
